Policy / Silver State Health Insurance Exchange Update

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act allows states to implement their own health insurance exchanges.

The federal government will also develop a health insurance exchange, in which states may choose to participate instead.

Nevada’s Silver State Health Insurance Exchange (SSHIX provides access to health care insurance for individuals and small businesses. It aims to increase the number of insured Nevadans by facilitating the purchase and sale of health insurance that provides quality health care through a transparent, simplified marketplace of qualified health plans.

The web portal for the SSHIX is Nevada Health Link (

Open enrollment began October 1st. Policies take effect starting January 2014. A second open enrollment period will be held the last quarter of 2014. Consumers can choose from plans offered by Health Plan of Nevada, Nevada Health CO-OP, St. Mary’s Health Plan, and Anthem.

Nevada Primary Care Association

Nevada Primary Care Association (NVPCA) is a federally funded non-profit membership organization that was founded in 1995.

NVPCA serves 330 funded and prospective federally qualified health centers, tribal health centers, other primary care clinics, and safety-net providers throughout the State of Nevada.
